Walking to Live
Routinely going out and walking has a profound impact upon your lifespan.Recent figures indicate that for every minute you walk, you will increase your lifespan by 1.5 to 2 minutes. If this isn't enough to get you out the door and start exercising, nothing will.Exercise plays a huge role in our overall fitness and thus our health, yet many people do not partake in this vital activity. The more you exercise, the more likely you are to live longer. And what's more, the more likely those extended years are to be high quality. An easy way to start walking more is to simply start using a pedometer.Research shows that just this simple activity alone will increase the average person's steps by about 2,100.You can go high tech if you want with something like the Fitbit-an expensive but comprehensive device that digitally tracks your physical activity and reports it back to your computer-or you can use a cheaper manual one.Either way, this simple act will be a constant reminder that you should walk as much as possible. There are a lot of scientifically proven benefits of walking. You can increase your lifespan, you can increase the quality of your life, you can better fight off diseases. The list goes on and on.There are also mental health benefits.Getting exercise decreases your chances of getting dementia or Alzheimer's and will go a long way toward keeping your mind young and sharp. It can also ward off the insomnia that so many senior citizens face. It's never too late to pick up a walking routine. The sooner you adopt this practice in your life the better off you will be, however.Studies show that when people are physically fit during their middle aged years, they are more likely to be healthy during their senior years.Still, if you have been avoiding exercise for many years, walking is pretty easy to begin and doesn't require a lot of conditioning or practice to get good at it.You don't necessarily need to walk to get the benefits that this study indicated.Walking is only the most basic and simplest way to get your exercise in.You only need a decent pair of shoes and some clothes to do this activity, which makes it perhaps the cheapest way to get your exercise in.You don't need to pay health club costs or buy expensive equipment-you just need to leave your house and hit the pavement.Whatever type of exercise you end up doing, make sure that you select something that you like. This will make exercise seem like much less of a chore and will end up becoming the part of your day that you most look forward to.
