Games Are Equally Advantageous To Adults And Children

Games Are Equally Advantageous To Adults And Children

Benjamin Franklin states "Games lubricate the mind and body".Just like how an automobile cannot function or run without petrol or diesel, similarly, man whether children or adults cannot live for long without games. For a child, games are a natural instinct and, he does almost all his activities naturally in a play way style. However, a man of 21st has realized or should soon realize, to a large extent, the importance of games in his life, the hard way, and learn to make it a part and parcel of his lifestyle. That is the present generation, who are mostly leading a sedentary lifestyle due to substantial improvement in technology, must understand to a great extent the need to play and have some frivolous activities regularly like games and sports often to increase his lifespan.Certainly, games are a source of entertainment, great physical and mental exercise for the adults too just as it is to the children.Just like how games are vital for every child's intellectual and physical development, it is equally a genuine fact that adults need them too.For an adult to stay fit and healthy, he must exercise regularly backed up with proper balanced diet.If he ignores the former at the expense of latter, he is definitely losing a balance which will make him unfit, unhealthy, and he will be prone to illness often. If an adult wants to stay healthy and happy, playing games or exercises is the turning point to overall strength, well-being so as to achieve superb health and longevity. So, every adult must play games to keep himself physically and mentally fit.Furthermore, the sedentary lifestyle and the intake of junk food especially in the urban areas has made man prone to illness like obesity, diabetes, heart stroke, mental fatigue, sprains, stress, insomnia, blood pressure, backache and so on.If a man inculcates the habit of playing games as a part of his daily schedule, perhaps his health problems could be minimized, controlled and prevented. The best way to protect and insure our health is through exercises and physical movement which could be done either through aerobics, yoga or running over a treadmill.Or, another alternative is by playing games like basket ball, football, tennis, badminton, running race, swimming etc.The games such as these are, indeed, not only fascinating and enthralling to kids but equally advantageous to adults too.An hour a day spent playing games is the best source of investment in health, wealth and security for future. This means playing games and getting involved in sports increases our life span which any medical practitioner or health experts would agree to.So, just imagine how long our life could be in this planet if we were thoughtful enough to invest in games and sports.Similarly, we all know that children need to be playing to grow.Playing games help children keep fit, healthy and strengthens their bones and helps in their overall growth and personality. But in case of an adult be it a man or a woman, it is not a matter of physical development, but a concern of keeping fit, slim, stress free and disease free.Let's get a bit deeper into types of games and how they benefit us.Games can be broadly classified into two categories. indoor and outdoor games. The indoor games such as chess, carom, puzzles, dominos, computer games etc.Help develop ones intellectual capacity; enhances IQ.And, also hones ones social skills. The outdoor games like badminton, tennis, swimming, football, basket ball, cycling etc.Are still more important as it helps us acquire both physical and mental health benefits. The physical health benefits are building sportsmanship spirit, friendship, relaxation, burning calories and good blood circulation. The mental health benefits are to help overcome negative thoughts, forget unnecessary worries of past and attain mental stability which eliminate stress, tension and psychological problems. Thus playing games are so fundamental to maintain good health just like how we need water to survive in this planet. This leaves me to wind up with a quote "There are really only two requirements when it comes to exercise. One is that you do it.The other is that you continue to do it".~The New Glucose Revolution for Diabetes by Jennie Brand-Miller, Kaye Foster-Powell, Stephen Colagiuri, Alan W.Barclay.

The Tobacco Budworm: Nature's Anti-Smoking Device?

The Tobacco Budworm: Nature

For a lot of people, the mere mention of the word 'worm' will conjure an image of a small, squirming creature that gives them the creeps. This image is made even worse when you consider the fact that the Tobacco Budworm is a species that is not actually a worm, it is in fact a moth, with wings! Now, a lot of you will want to know more ways of avoiding the creature, but the fact is that these are rather fascinating insects that will wow you if you learn a little more about them! The tobacco budworm is a species which is native to the eastern and southwestern United States, but has been found in other regions of the country as well.In some cases, these insects have even been found as far north as Canada and as far south as Guatemala! Why is this an incredible feat, you ask? Because as adults, the wingspan of these moths comes in at only 28 millimeters, which means that the adult itself is much smaller than this size - for an insect this tiny, it is a task of mammoth endurance to make it from its point of origin to such faraway places. This little moth has a high affinity for feeding on the buds of tobacco leaves in the larval stage, which rightfully earns it its name as well. The adult moth will lay her eggs on the leaves of plants that belong to the tobacco species, and when the eggs hatch they immediately make their way through the leaves and towards the bud of the plant, feeding on it and causing damage. The best way to identify an area with tobacco budworm presence is to observe if the budding leaves have their normal features or if they are ragged and distorted. This is all the more necessary when you consider that the larva of these insects have coats in the shades of green, thereby allowing them to easily camouflage in the tobacco fields! An interesting thing to note about the tobacco budworm is that each stage of its development - larva through adult - is very dependent on the temperature of its surrounding environment.A 5 degree rise in temperature, in fact, is known to shrink the time taken for the larva to mature by almost a week! That said, there is also a disadvantage in this method for the insect - in the event that the temperature changes too rapidly in a given area, it could cause great harm to their growth.Adult moths are normally light brown in color with some tinges of green, but the females of the species tend to possess darker coverings, making them more detectable. They also have a very short lifespan when fully mature, normally mating and laying the eggs for the new generation within 25 days of emerging as adults!Owing to their taste for the tobacco plant, they are cigarette manufacturers' worst nightmare. However, for all those of you who have been advocating your friends and family against the use of tobacco in their lives, the tobacco budworm may actually be Nature's way of helping you out! Bet you never thought of it that way.

Three Common Mistakes of Website Design Companies and How to Avoid Them

Starting your own website design company can be an exciting venture for the person is gifted with good graphic art skills as well as being quite web and computer savvy. To be successful; however, one must develop good management and business skills. There are some things to consider when operating your own business.1.Do not over promise and under deliver. When taking on a new project, it is important to be realistic about both your expectations and the expectations of your client. You need to consider such things as the time it will take to complete the project and the budget of the project including how much it will cost to complete the project and your profit margin. You should deliver on what you promise and ensure that you do not promise more than what you can chew. One of the greatest assets of the web development firm is its reputation.2.Don't be shy to take partial payment upfront before beginning the project. It is not uncommon practice for a wed design company to put in its conditions a set percentage upfront before beginning the work. This can be agreed upon before commencing the project, but typically it can be as high as fifty percent. It helps both parties with the commitment for the project and also ensures that you can schedule and allocate the time needed for the project.3.Support your clients after the site is complete.Once the project is complete and the website is online and paid for, make sure that there is a specified time for support of the site.Although typical content management systems are designed to be easy to maintain once developed, many clients will need reminders on how to update their site.If it only takes a quick phone call to refresh their memory after training, than it is worth providing the support. It is also important to be firm with pricing for larger support issues or feature upgrades. The reputation that you will need to develop will go a long way toward your success.Be sure to always upgrade your knowledge on advancing technologies with web design as the Internet and the way people interact through the Internet is changing and evolving.Remember that many websites have a life span of about five years.Make sure that your lifespan as a business owner of your web development company lasts even longer.

Texas Chows Down - How Decreasing Food Intake May Increase Life Span

Texas Chows Down - How Decreasing Food Intake May Increase Life Span

"Eat less and exercise" is traditional advice dispensed to those wanting to lose weight, improve health, and reduce susceptibility to certain diseases. With the national obesity epidemic growing by the day, particularly in Texas , this is sound advice. But recent studies show the first part alone of that classic line may be sufficient to lengthen one's lifespan by up to 40%.Simply eating less may not only add years to life, but also may improve cardiovascular health, lessen the chances of such diseases as diabetes and cancer, and slow neurodegeneration due to aging—all also of considerable concern in Texas. And, hey, with so many individual health insurance premiums skyrocketing, who couldn't use a discount for good health? It seems so simple. With all the latest gadgets, gizmos, fitness club machines, weight loss programs, herbs, supplements, medications, and scams in Dallas, Houston, throughout Texas and the rest of the country—amounting to an all-out, take-no-prisoners, product assault on the increasing number of health-conscious individuals—how could this possibly work? Health insurance companies and other medical facilities release regular warnings that the best, and most sure methods, for maintaining and increasing health are old news—namely, eating well and exercising.Far from putting a deeper hole in the pocket of the average American consumer (who is already in debt), eating less may actually save money.“It can't be," you say.Oh, but it can.The answers aren't entirely clear yet, but scientists from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the National Institute on Aging are slowly closing in on all the “whys" of this revelation.Anecdotal evidence has existed on the subject since the 1930's, but 2002 saw this hypothesis's first big break. It was then that George S.Roth of the National Institute on Aging confirmed that the lives of lab animals were extended by up to 40% through the application of a reduced calorie, highly nutritious diet. While nutrient levels were maintained, calories were cut by approximately one-third.Similar studies have been done on roundworms and monkeys with similar results.Originally, the effect of calorie restriction on longevity was believed to be mediated by the insulin/IGF-1 pathway.A research group headed by Andrew Dillin, Ph.D., from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, published a study in May 2007 stating his team had actually discovered a specific gene linked to calorie-restriction induced longevity.Other factors believed to affect longevity were also expressed in experimental worms through a "forkhead family" of genes. One by one, these fifteen "forkhead-like factors" are being isolated and tested, but so far, only one other has proved to be a promising link to longevity. The specific gene Dillin is highlighting is one encoding the PHA-4 protein found in worms, which operates independently of the insulin/IGF-1 pathway. In humans, the group of genes similar to the PHA-4 gene is known as the Foxa family, which is involved in the development and regulation of glucagons—a pancreatic hormone that increases blood sugar concentrations and maintains energy levels, especially during fasting. What this means is that there may be several pathways influencing longevity, and scientists are slowly isolated what they are, and how they work.According to Dillin, "…we know three distinct pathways that affect longevity. insulin/IGF signaling, calorie restriction, and the mitochondrial electron transport chain pathway…PHA-4 is specific for calorie restriction as it does not affect the other pathways.".Calorie restriction may set off certain biological markers common in those with increased longevity, as well. Both experimental animals, and certain people with longer life spans (either set off by calorie restriction or occurring naturally) display lower body temperature, lower insulin levels, and a steady level of the steroid hormone DHEAS.The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging found that, among their experimental group of aging men, those dying more slowly displayed these biological markers, begging the question. Which came first—good genes, or good bio markers? Can they, if not inherent, be induced by calorie restriction? Such an intriguing twist will, surely, inspire further studies benefiting all, including the disproportionately overweight population of Texas .Nationally, obesity is increasing at an epidemic rate; so is heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and many of the other conditions often associated with it.In Texas alone, the percentage of obese individuals is hovering around 27%—nearly 3% above the national average—and studies in Dallas and Houston show equally alarming trends in those 18 years of age and under.Calorie intake is certainly not the only cause of obesity, but it is a major contributing factor. The growing number of health problems associated with the condition is not only dangerous on a biological level, but is also one factor pushing the rising costs of individual health insurance for many companies. But cutting calories by 30-40% just may not be realistic for the majority of the American populace, and, doctors warn, is probably not actually healthy. It's difficult for most in Texas, and the rest of the country, to imagine living as an ascetic—sinewy body, constant hunger—just to live life somewhat longer. It contradicts modern Western culture, in which indulging in sweets and large meals is considered an unvoiced right. The moral of the story, as it were, may very well be to learn from an even older saying, "All things in moderation." If it's not realistic to cut calories by nearly half, Americans can at least limit themselves to the Recommended Daily Allowance to enjoy better health. So it's possible, and it's even simple.Good health is entirely within our reach through intelligent moderation and applied discipline.Reducing calories by 40% may not be the best thing for most, but choosing lower calorie, highly nutritious food offerings just may add years to your life.Besides, your health insurance company will love you for it.How you eat when you're young will certainly affect your health as you age, and eventually your wallet. If you’re a young individual who tries to keep informed and maintain a healthy condition and lifestyle, you should take a look at the revolutionary, comprehensive and highly-affordable individual health insurance solutions created by Precedent specifically for you.Visit our website, [http.//www.Precedent.Com] , for more information. We offer a unique and innovative suite of individual health insurance solutions, including highly-competitive HSA-qualified plans, and an unparalleled "real time" application and acceptance process.

This review is from: Development Through the Lifespan (with MyDevelopmentLab with E-Book Student Access Code Card) (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
I was not very happy with my purchase. This is because I did not recieve everything that I was under the impression of purchasing. When the title of your purchase says "Develpment Across the Lifespan (With MyDevelopmentLab with E-Book student access code card", that is what I expect to get, and I needed all of that for my class. I only recieved the book and no access code, therefore was not able to access the online material. I was also not happy with the fact that I had no one to contact about this problem, and had no choice but to keep the book. Overall, this was a very disappointing purchase.

10 Ways to Maximize Your Body's Life Span

10 Ways to Maximize Your Body

Your body is a precious house in which amazing unimaginable things do take place. It is in your body that a brain is carried that thinks thoughts to build a destiny and a future. It is within the body that food is processed, nutrients absorbed and toxins thrown out of the body. The same unit comprises many systems that work together to keep it busy and alive Such systems as the blood circulatory system, digestive system, respiratory system, excretory system, neurological system to name a few.All these systems feed from each other to make the body as lively as possible. The collapse of one system affects all the other systems and eventually the body may deteriorate and die.The difference between those who live to over 100 and those who can barely cross over the age of 35 is sometimes in how bodies are taken care of.I have spoken to a number of people who are over seventy and yet look very young in terms of how they do it.I realized there is no magic about it.It is all straight forward and to the point. If you take care of the body you have, it has capacity to take care of your well-being.Their simple answers - not in order of importance.1.Exercise is key - the body requires exercise daily.A lot of people eat and sleep hence they gain so much weight.Exercise helps to burn that accumulation of fat leaving the body healthy and the heart operating at optimum levels.Sometimes walking and jogging daily are recommended to keep the body fit.You can live longer this way.Always sitting in your car is convenient but not good for your health. It makes your body so lethargic and not alert and ready for anything.Find a way to exercise each day.We live in a very convenient world where we have escalators to take us through high rise buildings, cars take us to places faster. This is all good but the body needs time to work out and revitalize.2.Bath regularly - Bathing is not an option for those who like looking good.Indeed it makes you refresh and look good but in the same process you remove excess oils from the body, you remove dead cells which accumulate on the surface of the body and all the germs that come in the sweat.Bathing prevents the onset of disease. It is easy to be sick if you do not enjoy fellowship with water. The bare minimum is to bath once a day but two would be best, in the morning before your meet the public in your busy life and in the evening before you retire to bed.3.Oil your body - Lotion help close the pores on the body surface after bathing. This prevents the unnecessary loss of water from the body. Also the skin problem that including cracking etc are prevented with the application of oils to the body. There are some facial lotions that have sun protection in them to allow your face not to be burnt by the direct sun. This is important. There is also nothing wrong in applying face lifts when aging begins to show on your face.It helps a lot.4.Drink lots of water - Water is an essential element of one's health. The body is predominantly water and yet some people take days to drink water. The recommended water requirements is 3 glasses of water a day.I would say that instead of taking these glasses all at once, you space them out.Drinking gallons of water at once will stress out the kidneys and excretory system unnecessarily. You can only absorb so much water. The bulk of conditions or diseases people face is because there is not much water in the system.Avoid cholera by taking clean water or distill or boil the water you have if you are not sure of the source. You have to be jealous of your body.Carry a bottle of water wherever you go as a reminder. When you are thirsty it is not time for a soda, it is actually time for water.5.Shave, shave, shave - The body must look good. You look and feel old when you keep unnecessary hair all over your body. You can shave hair on your head or keep it clean as well as armpits and close to your private sections of the body. This keeps your feeling healthy and refreshed hence in your mind you are renewed.Sometimes people look old because of the thoughts of age which are created out of the image they carry.6.Clothe the body - You body needs clothes to protect it from heat and cold. Some bodies suffer in the hands of "being fashionable".Cover all the essential elements of your body and avoid people feeling either sorry or angry about how you dress.Consider always how you want people to treat you.Consider more-so the male counterparts who I must say get affected by what they see.I have heard of numerous rape cases that happen all over the world because a woman was not even dressed as she walked in the streets. Now I am not saying men must be loose in their minds but you increase your risk of corrupting your own body by dressing in a funny way in the name of creativity. There is a time and place for creative dressing. It must be underscored however that no matter how young your face may look, your clothes may make you feel and look older.7.Eat nutritious healthy foods - This is by far the best way to live longer. You are what you eat actually.Certain foods that our bodies may crave for are the ones that shorten our life spans.Deep fried items like chips or "fries", burgers and so on are foods prepared in a hurry and sometimes not careful thought is put into the harmful effects of each food item.I am not downplaying fast foods but natural foods are better. If you always eat junk good, obesity is not far from you and disease is looming, waiting to attack your body.Watch everything that you present to your digestive system closely.8.Take time to rest a lot - This is the best treat your body deserves each day.Sleep a minimum of 6 hours a day.I rarely do this and I know there is a time I need to rest more.Sometimes I push myself all night, working so hard. When this particular sentence was typed it was early in the morning after not have slept properly.I know I must speak about what I practice, it is not good and I know that but I unnecessarily subject myself to pressure sometimes as I work best and produce more under pressure than in a relaxed state.Take your family on holiday, away from a busy productive life. When you return you will be even more productive.9.Boost your immune system - Certain foods and pills that you take can help boost your immune system to be able to fight diseases. This is linked so much to food but I felt it needed to be said separately. You can take additional minerals and vitamin supplements which are not necessarily food or medication but pills that boost your body's levels of the two.Supplements prevent the common flues and other minor diseases that your body can be subjected to.Your body is made in a way that it fights every kind of disease.10.Visit a specialist regularly - A visit to the doctor for checkups is important. You are not enriching the doctor but taking care of your own body.Where you see your body failing to fight disease, please take it to a specialist who can give you advice on what to take in order to supplement your immune system. You regularly take your car to your mechanic for checkup and service, just as well you need to schedule regular checkup and body maintenance.I know the recommendation to see a dentist twice a year.Visit your general doctor for checkups at least once a year even though you feel healthy and increase that if you have a chronic illness. You can live so much longer.
